First Wind will sponsor scholarships and school awards for the 20th Annual Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Science Bowl for the second year in a row. First Wind owns and operates the two phases of the Milford Wind Corridor projects that deliver clean, renewable power to Los Angeles and several nearby communities, including Pasadena, Burbank, and Glendale.

First Wind will host a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the completion of Steel Winds II, the second phase of a wind project built on the shores of Lake Erie, on top of a brownfield left behind by an abandoned steel mill. The project now has a capacity of 35 MW, or enough to power approximately 9,000 New York homes.

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) Biomonitoring and Aquatic Studies Program has issued a report with the results of a series of water quality tests that found that construction of the Sheffield Wind Project had no adverse impact to the water quality and aquatic life of cold-water streams near the project.

First Wind has obtained $210 million in financing for the company’s subsidiary, Palouse Wind, LLC, the owner of the 105 MW Palouse Wind project located in northern Whitman County, Washington. With financing in place, First Wind will continue on schedule with construction of the largest renewable energy facility in the county with the capacity to generate enough clean energy to power about 30,000 Northwest homes, equal to the total energy load of all of Whitman County.

Michele Beasley has joined First Wind as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Ms. Beasley comes to the company with extensive experience in the development and financing of wind and other energy projects. In her role, she will oversee the company’s legal affairs and manage its legal team.

The Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission has approved an agreement between First Wind and Hawaiian Electric Company for the utility to purchase renewable energy produced by the proposed 69-megawatt (MW) Kawailoa Wind project on Oahu’s North Shore.

Applications will be open and available online as of December 8, 2012 for First Wind's 2012 scholarship program. Entering its third full year, First Wind Scholars will award 16 scholarships to qualified high school seniors in communities where the company currently has projects in operation or advanced stages of development.

Joe “EJ” Martin has been promoted to Vice President of Operations. In his newly expanded role, he will be responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of all of First Wind’s operating projects in the Northeast, the West and in Hawaii.
